Types of Casino Poker Games

Online casino sites offer several types of casino poker games. Though based on standard poker rules, they vary according to the number of dealt cards, the number of community cards on the table, the number of hole cards, and betting procedures.

  • Draw Poker – Players are dealt five face-down cards, after which they can either retain those cards or replace them in order to create the best poker hand. Five Card Draw is the most popular variant of Draw Poker.

  • Stud Poker – In case of Stud Poker, players are dealt a combination of face-down and face-up cards and there are several betting rounds. The most common Stud Poker variant is Five Card Stud and Seven Card Stud.

  • Community Cards Poker – This is a generic term given to a series of card games, in which players have to use face-up cards dealt on the table and their own face-down cards to create the best poker hand. The most common variants are Omaha and Texas Hold’em Poker.

  • Poker Variants – Online casino sites also offer games involving different poker variants, the most common variant being HORSE Poker. HORSE is a mixture of Hold’em, Omaha, Razz, Seven Card Stud, and Eight or Better.

How to Play

Standard casino poker begins with a round of betting. One of the players is forced to make a bet, called the ante or the blind, after which the betting continues in a clockwise direction. Once everybody has placed a bet, the cards are dealt. Each player is required to bet an amount equal to that bet by the previous player. Alternatively, players can fold or leave the game or they can raise the bet if they have a good hand.

Depending on the variant, a game of poker may have several betting rounds. The game ends with a showdown when there are just two players left at the table. Both players show their hands, and the player with the best hand wins the pot.
